So if it’s true that Israel wants to play American football, our age-old past-time, perhaps we can use this as a new BDS tactic. No American football until Israel fixes itself? Maybe? Maybe? But I highly doubt that the corporate disaster that is the NFL would listen to such political reasoning. No, more likely is that some old-school doves will take this opportunity to say, “hey, let’s have Israeli and Palestinian kids play tackle football together and we’ll solve all of Israel’s problems through sports.” Besides, I think too many Israelis are too tied to real football for American football to gain a real foothold. Also, the New York Times should probably stop thinking the American ex-pats in Jerusalem provide a representative sample of Israel’s population.
